Expectations

I have previously had leadership experience in Pieke and had shared a year living with most of our HK. This has gained me an expectation of what exactly a HK member is and what a HK member does. I have also noticed exactly what the role of a PSO like Pieke is and what part it plays in certain people’s lives. A PSO is nothing more but a social hub that offers experiences to connect with other on both a deeper and lighter manner. This holds connectivity with my first statement. The experienced I gathered is that the HK are the candidates of this hub that are in charge of organising events as well as introducing new members to this hub. They do this while carrying the values of the PSO.

So what I expect is exactly the above mentioned. I will be in charge of dealing with the necessary admin to make this experience possible along with a group of 9 other individuals. I cannot expect to predict the people I will be introducing into this hub, but I do know that I am more than capable and keen to organise events and arrange a social space for the current and new members of pieke.

Want to do

One of the two events I currently want to introduce into Pieke is a second year’s dance for next year. This is to give back to the second years the first year’s dance they could never have due to the Covid situation of the current year. The other event is an unofficial Jool tour. I want to arrange a plot of land where members of the PSO can go camping alongside other guest PSO’s to give the house the Jool tour we will probably not get to experience this year.

Overall I wish to increase the amount of events and social gatherings Pieke has each year. I have noticed that as a PSO, events are the biggest opportunity for Pieke to create relationships.

I believe that I have the right amount of connections and skills to make this wish possible.

Another change I want to bring to the way our PSO acts is to change welcoming to have more social opportunities between the members of the HK and the newcomers. If possible I would like to increase the social interactions between the newcomers and all members of the PSO, for example more interaction between the seniors committee and the newcomers. Out of experience I had seen that the newcomers rather form a first year’s friendship group within Pieke rather than being incorporating into Pieke as a whole. Most first years only form a relationship with their mentors and the HK.

Portfolios

Portfolios I can see myself undertaking are financial manager, committee guardian for the second years, sports, events and tours.

• Financial manager- My education is business based, leaving me with the experience to know how to handle finances

• Committee guardian for the second years- I was a mentor during this current year. This gave me the opportunity to build a connection with the second years of the coming year.

• Sports- My previous experience and love for sports has given me the correct knowledge applicable to arrange Pieke's sport.

• Events- As mentioned above this is the part I am most passionate of and believe I can do the most good in; I have the right personality as well as skill set to undertake this portfolio.

• Tours- I believe that this walks hand in hand with the events section and I am applicable for this portfolio for the same above mentioned reasons.

What type of leader am I?

I consider myself as a forward thinking leader. I am not a person that is afraid to take action and say what is on my mind.(This can be a strength as well as a weakness) I believe in a leadership style where you lead from within the group and deal with situations along with the rest of your pack. I see myself as a laid back and casual person but also as a person that knows what needs to be done .I do not see myself as the perfect role model at all, but I do see myself as the person that can see the bigger picture and can assess how to get myself closer towards it. I am definitely not the perfect leader but I am driven by my passion for the organisation and I believe that allows me to act as a viable candidate for Pieke. Lastly I also want to state that I am a realist, meaning I know what goals are realistically achievable for the organisation and I truly believe that some of these achievable goals are big accomplishments...
